This training manual contains product information and selling techniques we recommend you use to ensure your success on the selling floor. Read it entirely before your first shift. Good luck!
1. THE COLLECTION
The Michel Germain Collection is French and it is important to pronounce the name correctly to heighten the customer's experience. sexual is pronounced "sek-shu-al."
2. REASONS CUSTOMERS BUY THE MICHEL GERMAIN COLLECTION
a) sexual femme attracts the customers attention unlike any other brand in the world. The name inspires their imagination and entices them to experience the fragrance.
b) Great fragrances. sexual smells amazing. Uniquely blended so you will receive many compliments. No
other fragrances offer the customer these desirable qualities.

People love sexual. Because of its limited distribution most are unaware it exists, so be the first to introduce this exciting fragrance to every customer. Introduce sexual and it sells. Be part of the phenomenon.

Research shows that 80% of department store fragrance sales are impulse purchases. The opportunity for high volume sales is unbelievable. Approach every customer you see and you will be rewarded with outstanding sales.

4. APPROACH THE CUSTOMER:
Be the first to approach the customer. Smile
Approach every customer. Smile
If there are no customers in the department, approach those in nearby departments. Other than at
Christmas, the fragrance departments are slow so if there are no customers in the fragrance department, you will have to constantly approach people walking by or in nearby departments to educate the customer about your new fragrance. Note: Always keep your eye on the fragrance area as a customer coming into the department customers are looking for fragrance and you have a new and exciting fragrance to introduce to them.
As you talk and smile and educate them, they will become more comfortable with you and they will become aware of your fragrance. Knowing this will make a big difference in the way you appear to your customers – professional, knowledgeable, and self-assured.
Approach your customer with confidence. Your approach is important. Using eye contact and a warm smile, say one of the following:
· "sexual by Michel Germain."
· "sexual #1 @ Bloomingdale's."
· "because you are beautiful - sexual femme"
· “A beautiful fragrance for a beautiful woman - sexual femme"
· "Hello, this is sexual and it is wonderful."
· "The new sexual fresh from Michel Germain."
Scent the blotter card by spraying the fragrance in the air, fanning the card through the mist. It is extremely important to scent the card in this manner. This method ensures the perfect amount of fragrance will be on the card. Present the card with the name facing the customer and hand it directly to them as you are speaking. This immediately gets them involved.
Customers at this point may ask, "Who is Michel Germain?" Answer with confidence:
"Michel Germain is a fragrance designer and his collection is available exclusive at Bloomingdale's and Macy's, (The Bay in Canada

5. EXCITE THE CUSTOMER
With your nice smile, passionately introduce your fragrance collection and educate the customers with reasons to buy. Your enthusiasm and passion will be infectious. Say the following as the customer smells the card:
LADIES'
· "sexual femme is deliciously feminine. It has an intoxicating chocolate accord with luscious red berries and a lasting feminine impression that is so addictive."
· "sexual classique is infused with ancient aphrodisiacs. It smells amazing. The beautiful, fresh top note you are smelling is Japanese Osmanthus … so luscious and mouthwatering. It is an ancient aphrodisiac and has been used in Japan for over 2000 years. It is a tiny golden yellow flower. It is my favourite."
Continue by saying:
· "sexual is beautiful and on the skin it smells incredible. The warmth of your body brings out the feminine character of the natural oils. You will love it and you will receive a lot of great compliments."
MEN'S
· "sexual pour homme is infused with ancient aphrodisiacs. It is #1 at Bloomingdale's. The fresh top note you are smelling is Indian Basil. Basil oil is an ancient aphrodisiac and was used in ancient India and Greece by kings who prized it for its uplifting qualities. Everyone loves it. You will smell amazing."
· "sexual fresh pour homme is the perfect complement to a well tailored suit or what’s underneath the still damp bath towel. The scent’s clean, green notes married with aphrodisiacs ensures he attracts attention no matter where he is..
Continue by saying:
· "On the skin this basil note smells unbelievable. It is fresh, masculine, and very sexy. Your partner will love it."
Make a gesture to gently hold their hand and spray their wrist as you look them directly in the eye. You are servicing the customer and giving them the attention they really deserve. Spray the fragrance on their RIGHT wrist.
If they object ask them:
· “Are you wearing fragrance now?”
· “Are you sensitive or allergic to fragrance?”
Find out the reason why they would not like to wear it on their skin. If it is because they have already put on fragrance that day, 90% of the time they will smell their wrist and find that their existing perfume is no longer there. They will allow you to spray their wrist. If their wrist has fragrance, encourage them to put some fragrance on the back of their RIGHT hand or on the inside of their elbow because they can only experience the unique essence when it is on their skin.
If they say they are allergic, let them know that good eau de parfums always smell strong at first but they are softer and last on the skin. If they are light on the card they wont last any time. If they are allergic, let them know that many people who are allergic to fragrances say they are not sensitive to Michel Germain fragrances because of the high concentration of natural oils. Suggest they wear a light spray. Assure them they will have success.
Natural oils blend uniquely with everyone's body chemistry. They now have a true signature scent.
Synthetics mostly smell the same on everyone.
If they say it smells strong on the card, educate them that on the skin it is soft and alluring. Tell them that you are now addicted and you love it. Educate them that the only way to experience the true essence of any fragrance is on their skin. Let them smell the fragrance on your wrist so they can tell the difference. Encourage the customer to try. Apply the fragrance to their wrist:
Take their preferred hand and lightly spray the fragrance on their wrist and continue to hold their hand for 5-6 seconds to allow the fragrance to dry. Smell their wrist first and with a smile on your face excitedly tell them how heavenly it smells on them:
· "This fragrance loves you, it smells beautiful!" This is the first compliment they have heard
Be your customers friend, be interested in them and converse with them during your presentation. Compliment them on their outfit or their beautiful eyes etc..
Involve your customer to find out their needs by asking some good questions:
· Are you looking for something new?
· Are you looking for a gift?
· Do you like a fresh or a warm scent?
Focus your response to make a positive statement about your fragrance, say:
· "sexual is new and it is amazing!"
· "sexual as a gift will be remembered for a long time!"
· "sexual has those beautiful fresh top notes people love.”
· "sexual warm base notes last on the skin for many hours."
Your compliments, your questions, and your positive answers create a unique shopping experience for your customer. Keep smiling.
6. BRING THE CUSTOMER TO THE COUNTER
One of two things will happen at this stage:
The customer will ask how much it is.
Or you will continue your sales presentation.
In either case continue talking and walk directly to the counter, gesturing to the customer to follow.
Your customer will follow you.
If they ask the price say:
- "The prices are excellent. I will show you the collection."
If you need to continue your sales presentation:
- "I will show you the bottle. It is beautiful. It's a work of art."

Go behind the counter. Your presentation will build value for your fragrance and customers are more comfortable purchasing over the counter.
If a customer asks your opinion of another fragrance, always answer positively, "the other fragrance you mentioned is nice, but sexual is unique and special." Then give them the reasons your fragrances are unique and special. You don't need to know anything about any other fragrance. Tell them why you love sexual and that in your opinion no other fragrance is as passionate/elegant/feminine etc.
Once you are behind the counter and just before you give the prices, introduce the luxury body lotion for ladies or after shave balm for men by excitedly saying:
- "The body lotion is wonderful, I'll put some on your skin."
- "You have got to experience this aftershave balm. It is the best."
Take their hand and apply the lotion, educating them about its beauty and benefits. For the lotion, apply just a little so that it disappears as you rub and massage it on the back of their LEFT hand. You will now have fragrance on both hands .
Don't be afraid to touch your customer. They love the massage and the personal attention. Inform the customer to always apply lotion to damp skin after their bath or shower. Their skin will require fewer products to achieve the same result required when skin is dry.
Put a light dusting of fragrance over the body lotion. This is called layering. Tell them the benefits of layering by saying the following:
· "The luxury body lotion moisturizes the skin. When you layer fragrance over top of the lotion, the scent will last about 2 to 3 hours longer."
· "The body lotion absorbs quickly and leaves the skin feeling silky smooth. It's beautiful."
· "The body lotion is moisture rich, not oily, so your skin will breathe. It is so luxurious."
· "The sexual fresh after shave balm contains natural seaweed and algae. These coastal ingredients hydrate, soothe, and prevent aging of the skin."
· “Our aftershave balms are amazing – apply the aftershave balm prior to the eau de toilette and your fragrance will last 2-3 hours longer. The balms hydrate the skin and prevent irritation caused by shaving."
While you are massaging the lotion into their hand, notice whether or not they have dry skin. If they do have dry skin, let them know. Inform them that women produce less oil in their skin than men and need added protection from artificial winter heating and summer air conditioning – both of which are drying.
Ask your male customers to apply the aftershave balm directly to their neck. This is the only way they will experience the soothing benefits.
At this stage, the customer will ask the price. Start by taking a fresh bottle out of the showcase. DO NOT POINT TO A TESTER AND TELL THE PRICE. Testers look messy. Gracefully remove it from the box like you are opening up a gift and let them hold it in their hands and say the following:

LADIES':
· "The large spray 4.2 oz./125ml eau de parfum is a higher concentration than the eau de toilette so it will last longer. It is 92. It is beautiful. You're going to love it."
MEN'S:
· "The regular size 4.2 oz./125ml eau de toilette is a higher concentration than a cologne so it will last longer. It is masculine and you will get many compliments. It is an excellent value at 85."
Always allow the customer to handle the product. They will feel the special character and quality of the glass bottle.
Remove the lotion from the showcase and say:
· "This is the 6.2 oz./200 ml luxury body lotion. The moisture rich ingredients leave the skin feeling silky, soft and smooth. The lotion is ___ which is an excellent price for a body lotion of this quality."
7. CLOSE: ASK EVERY CUSTOMER TO BUY – AND YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL
Up to this point, this training manual has given you a thorough overview of how to "Excite the Customer" and Bring the Customer to the Counter. You must now ask the customers to buy.
· "May I put that on your Bloomingdale's/Macy's/Bay card?
· "Will that be cash or charge?"
· "Would you like the large size as it's a better value?"
· "Which do you prefer: sexual femme or sexual classique?"
· “If you purchase today, I have a Free Gift for you"
· "You have made the perfect choice – May I ring it through for you?"
If they say "yes", ask the store employee to ring in the sale. You do not use the cash register.
Note: Always stay with the customer until the transaction is complete (so store staff do not switch your sale) then personally hand them their purchase and say,
· "You've made an excellent choice. Enjoy."
· "This is one of the world's truly great fragrances."
If they say no you have to enthusiastically repeat the reasons to buy and educate the customer about the quality of your fragrance.

· "sexual smells amazing. It is unlike any other fragrance in the world"
· "sexual is uniquely blended so you will receive many compliments."
· "The natural oils create your own signature scent. You will smell unbelievable
· “sexual is exclusive to Bloomingdale's and Macy's. It is available only to elite few. You will love it"
· “sexual is #1 @ Bloomingdale's. It is so amazing. You are going to love it."
Customers often say, "I'll come back." What the customer is really saying is: "You have not given me enough good reasons to buy this product today."
Therefore be persistent, and educate the customer and give them more reasons to buy your great fragrance.
· "sexual is exclusive to Bloomingdale's and Macy's. You will not find it in another department store. This is our top selling fragrance."
· "sexual smells great on everyone. The heat of your pulse points (wrists, behind the ears and knees, base of the throat, and inner elbow) will radiate this sexy fragrance. You've got to have it”.
· "You will fall in love with this new fragrance – you have not experienced anything like it!" "You will come back and thank me."
· This sexual travel spray gift is so convenient. You can freshen up anywhere". "sexual is infused with ancient aphrodisiacs and exotic natural oils – very powerful – you'll really attract attention."
· "sexual is unique. You'll receive many complements, smell great, and will have a signature scent. So many customers love this fragrance."
· "Feel the excitement of sexual. You will love the spontaneous hugs and kisses you will receive."
Unfortunately, we can't win every sale. Expect to be turned down now and then.
Just move on to the next customer with a positive attitude.
8. UP-SELL
An Up-Sell offers your customer value. Customers appreciate value and most of the time will take your offer. If the customer chooses the small size say the following:
"The 75ml spray is 75 but you get almost double the amount of fragrance with the large size for just $20 more. Would you like the large or the small size?"
You get close to double the amount with the large size. After all, Big is Better. How many would you like?"
Up-Sell to the gift set, say the following:

"The 75ml spray is 75. With the set you get the entire collection, including the body lotion, shower gel and perfume miniature worth $210. It only cost you $12 more. Would you like both?"
Up-Sell to the large size 2-piece men's gift set:
"For just $2 more you get twice as much, you're going to love it. I will ring it up for you."
9. ADD-ON-SELL
Add-On-Sell offers your customer the benefits of the entire collection such as the body lotion or shower gel.
Once your customer has said they would like the spray bottle, ask them if they would like one of the body products to go with it. Say the following:
· "When you layer the fragrance, the body lotion moisturizes the skin and makes the fragrance last
2 to 5 hours longer. I recommend it. Would you like that with the spray?"
· "The shower gel is so luxurious. The rich lather and beautiful scent leaves the skin soft and supple. A perfect way to start your day. May I put that on your card as well?"
· "The shower gel turns any shower into a beautiful, refreshing spa experience. It is easy to use with a shower puff and no soap film is left on your skin or bathtub. You have to have it. Shall I add it to your card?"
· "We have had many customer comments on it – women love it. If a woman wears the lotion one day, when she showers the next morning, the scent will rise up in the steam. The lotion is still fragrant and protecting her skin. You have to have it."
· "The cold dry weather (or the hot sun) is hard on the skin, you must protect it with a luxury body lotion which hydrates and soothes the skin. You will love it."
Also, find out if your customer needs to buy for someone's upcoming birthday or anniversary, wedding or honeymoon. Say the following:
· "Are you looking for a gift for someone? sexual classique would be the perfect gift for your sister. It is so beautiful. Would you like both?"
· Do you know of anyone who has a birthday coming up?
Always Add-On-Sell as it is part of service your customer well.
10. CROSS-SELL
A Cross-Sell is when you sell a ladies' and a men's fragrance to the same customer. sexual is the perfect brand to Cross-Sell. All you need to do is suggest. Say the following:
· "sexual is a couples fragrance. The fragrances have similar base notes and complement each other – a romantic experience. Your partner will love it and so will you. May I ring them through for you?"
· "Your partner will enjoy a special gift tonight – a new fragrance for both of you."

If the customer says their partner already has their favorite, suggest they buy them a new fragrance as a romantic surprise. Say the following:
· "We all love to receive a surprise gift, especially one as intimate as sexual. I will also include a travel spray gift with your purchase today. You will be back to thank me."
If by chance the customer says just purchased another brand of fragrance for their partner, suggest the following:
· "I know you have already purchased a fragrance, but in addition I want to show you something very special, it's sexual, and they would love to have this fragrance as part of their fragrance wardrobe. Have them wear it this weekend at a party. It is very sexy and you will love it."
A successful Cross-Sell requires your suggestion. Always suggest and serve your customer well.
11. OCCASIONS
At Christmas, Valentine's, Mother's Day & Father's Day always serve the customer well and remind them of the occasion and that time is running out.
· "Treat your special someone this holiday, there are only 10 shopping days left."
Advise them of the limited number of gift sets.
· "We only have a limited number of gift sets/gifts available and they are selling quickly. "May I suggest you buy them now as they will all be gone in a day or two."
· "sexual is exclusive to Bloomingdale's and Macy's. We sell out every year. Do not miss this wonderful gift. I suggest you get them today."
Make up containers/baskets with multiple products including your Free Gift. Create three different price ranges so the customer has several options to choose from.
Men are particularly great prospects and should be approached first. Men are likely looking for a gift.
If your customer is a tourist you are guaranteed an immediate sale because sexual is limited to the US and Canada. What a special gift to bring home for the occasion.
Also, for store closing suggest to the customer the following:
· "The store is about to close, would you like to get it now to save you coming back tomorrow?"
CHRISTMAS
The opportunity for high volume sales at Christmas is unbelievable. Christmas represents 50% of fragrance sales for the entire year. Everyone needs to buy a gift at Christmas. Since ancient times people have given fragrance as a gift at Christmas. Approach every customer and you will be rewarded with outstanding sales.

Men are particularly great prospects and should be approached first, especially in the last 10 days before Christmas. They will often purchase the most expensive item available including the entire collection
The following are suggestions on how to present:
· "This is the perfect gift for Christmas and she will love it."
· "Treat your someone special to a new, romantic fragrance gift this Christmas."
· "Give the most unique fragrance gift. sexual will make her feel feminine & beautiful."
· "sexual is the most beautiful fragrance to open on Christmas morning. Nothing says "because you are beautiful" in such a special way. It is a feminine fragrance gift."
Add-On-Sell opportunities are heightened at Christmas.
· "May I help you with some other people on your list?"
· "Is there something you didn't get that I can help you with?"
MOTHER'S AND FATHER'S DAY
sexual as a gift is a flattering gesture and a huge compliment to a mom and a dad. It is a reminder to them that they are both beautiful and attractive.
We must encourage and educate the customer that everyone wants to feel attractive, regardless of their age, and sexual makes one feel this way. The name will put a smile on a mother's or father's face. A mother is flattered when a child recognizes she is not only a mother, but a multi-faceted woman. The same holds true for a father.
The following are suggestions on how to present sexual:
· "Because Mom is beautiful. Femme is perfect for a Mother's Day gift”
· "Moms are sexy too! sexual is a perfect Mother's Day gift."
· "Dads are sexy too! sexual is a great gift for Dad."
· "Remind mom she is both beautiful and attractive. Compliment her with the flattering gift of sexual."
· "Compliment dad on Father's Day with a fragrance that celebrates his attractiveness."
VALENTINE'S DAY
sexual is the fragrance for Valentine's Day. When it comes to feeling sexy and attractive, sexual is the only choice. You should Cross-Sell to serve your customer well. Say the following:
· "sexual is a couples fragrance and Valentine's is the perfect opportunity to rekindle your love. How would you like to pay for this?"
· "sexual is the most romantic fragrance for Valentine's Day –You will love the men's, your partner will love the ladies'. A True couple's fragrance with common base notes which compliment each other. It is the perfect gift. Let the sparks fly. You're going to love it and you will be well rewarded."
· "sexual is guaranteed. If you are not satisfied you can return it. But trust me, you will have an amazing experience: customers write us all the time telling us about their experiences."

12. sexual – THE NAME
Occasionally people are surprised by the expressive nature of the name sexual. If we look at Opium
by Yves St. Laurent, people were shocked by this name since the drug after which it was named is highly hallucinogenic and illegal. Today it is a classic and people accept its name as an interesting expression. sexual, too, is a timeless classic.
If you sense the sexual name is too expressive for a customer, suggest she refer to it as the "Michel Germain fragrance," "femme,: or "classique."
13. SELLING TO A MAN VERSUS A WOMAN
Selling to a woman requires more time, detail, and education since women are more familiar with fragrances. You need to give her more detailed information, more reasons to buy, and more of your time. Be prepared to explain to her about the benefits of your fragrance and body products. This may take up to as much as 10-15 minutes.

16. WORK ETHIC:
Follow store dress code: Black attire only.
**Wear our fragrances in the store**
a. Check your problems at the door. Be focused and energetic. Smile.
b. Achieve your sales targets. Read the keys to success weekly and the training manual monthly.
c. Leave one container/basket and four packages at the counter at the end of your day. Someone always needs a birthday or anniversary gift.
d. Work the best selling times for the stores (e.g. Friday 5-9, Saturday 1-6, Sunday 1-6).
e. Plan your availability at Christmas, Valentine's, Mother's, and Father's Day.
f. Report only sales made by you and not items sold by the counter.
g. Promote a positive attitude with the store team. (e.g. "One thing I really like about this fragrance is that it is infused with ancient aphrodisiacs – it is so sexy.")
h. Look and act in a professional manner. Your grooming is important, especially your hands which hold and present the product to the customer.
i. If the customer asks about another fragrance, to introduce your exciting new fragrance then politely direct them to store staff.

j. Give only one Free Gift per purchase. No Free Gift with a gift set.
k. Take only your allotted time for your break (15 minute break for every 4 hours worked. i.e.8 hour shift is ½ hour total paid break).
l. Don't take breaks with the other demonstrators.
m. If you are late or sick call your Account Executive and your store to report the absence. Hours not worked will not be paid. Advise well in advance if time off is needed.
n. No chit chatting with demonstrators or store staff. The store supervisor will ask to have you replaced.
o. No personal telephone calls from the store telephone. Use a public one. No cell phones on the floor.
p. No chewing gum or eating on the sales floor.
q. Keep track of testers, blotters, gifts, and inform your Account Executive of the store needs prior to the next shift.
r. Although your shift is not intended for housekeeping, ensure your counter is clean before you begin selling. Take pride in your area.
s. Ask the store to do a PA announcement for sexual. Preferably 3 in a row.
t. If the store requests you to attend a meeting, call your Account Executive first.
17. STORE SECURITY
You must follow 3 security rules to be able to work in their store.
a. Enter and exit the store through the designated employee entrance (this includes breaks).
b. Sign in upon entering the store and sign out at the end of your shift.
c. Do not take anything out of the store. This includes tester and gift with purchase items from any department. You will be banned by security and may be charged by police.
18. SALES INVOICE
Your Sales Invoice attached contains all the necessary information regarding your cheque. Please ensure your Invoice contains all the information outlined in our sample invoice attached. For prompt payment please follow the instructions.
19. PAYMENT PROCEDURES
1) Fax Sales Invoice every Sunday to your Account Executive
2) Pay Period is two weeks
3) Cheques mailed Thursday’s after Pay Period End Date.
4) Late Invoice penalty: $20/week. Deduction from pay. 13
